My name is Josh and I’m a motorsport fanatic.
I love to learn and write about every aspect of it, from the action on track to the crews back at the shop and everything in between. My grandfather wrenched on (and possibly drove) dirt track cars in Illinois alongside guys like future 5-time Indianapolis 500 starter Arnie Knepper, and my grandmother used to tell me stories about the questionably legal drag racing she did in rural Florida as a teenager. Growing up in the sun-washed urban sprawl of St. Petersburg, my parents took my brother and I to every race in middle Florida they could get us to – IMSA at Sebring, NHRA at Bradenton, Trans Am in downtown St. Pete – to say I was hooked wouldn’t do it justice. After we moved to the Greater Cincinnati area years later I picked up following Indycar and sports cars, and when I started driving immediately dove into the car-modding scene. I joined car clubs, spectated a ton of races, and even found my way into competition through my local SCCA Solo series. During all this mayhem I discovered another passion in writing and managed to get myself a BA in Electronic Media from Northern Kentucky University, studying Journalism as a minor. I started this blog with the intent of making a sport with a lot of intricacies and nuance accessible to new fans, and to talk about some of the grassroots, regional, and ‘junior’ series that maybe don’t get the coverage or shine they deserve.
So, if there’s something you want to see written about or you have an odd racing-related question that needs answered write me at middleofthegrid@gmail.com
